Why Being Obese Is Not Ok
A mindset America needs to have.
Why this is not ok
Obesity, it’s a very touchy topic these days, is it ok? is it not? Well, I’m here to answer this question very simply and say no, no it’s not.
Obesity is a disease with many negative health effects such as heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, stroke, depression, breathing problems, etc. Obesity is not ok, this isn’t an opinion it is a medical fact, but movements like the Fat Acceptance Movement would like you to think otherwise.
The Fat Acceptance Movement wants you to believe they are victims, that they are looked down upon by society for something that isn’t even their fault, But the truth is if you are obese it is your fault. You are the one eating more calories than your supposed to, you are the one not exercising at least 4 times a week, it’s your fault plain and simple.
But this movement doesn’t stop at fat acceptance no, no, no they encourage the idea of being proud because your fat, this is absolutely absurd not just because of the negative health problems associated with obesity but because you didn’t do anything to earn that pride. A man that goes from 300 pounds of fat to 250 pounds of muscle has something to be proud of, a person that busts there ass working 16 hours a day to build a business has something to be proud of, but a person who becomes obese because they eat 6,000 calories daily and don’t do anything physically have nothing to be proud of.
Now if your still not getting my point let me put this in perspective, let’s say a movement is started called the Cocaine Acceptance Movement, this movement wants to encourage acceptance for cocaine addicts claiming that it’s ok to be an addict, they are victims and don’t deserve to be stigmatized, would you support this movement? Probably not because that’s fucking crazy.
You may be wondering why I compared obesity to cocaine addicts, seems like it’s out of left field right? Well generally speaking people are obese because of addictive/excessive eating habits often brought on by stress, anxiety, depression, etc.
Obesity is a major problem in America affecting over 70 million adults or about 39.6% of the population, and about 13.7 million children or 18.5%. This amount is staggering, meaning almost 50% of the population is obese and that percentage is growing by the year. By 2030 it is predicted that 49.2% of adults will be obese in America, that’s half the population!
Why you shouldn’t be proud of being fat
I wanted to touch on this particular aspect of the Fat Acceptance Movement in more detail simply because it pisses me off and that’s that these people are proud to be dangerously overweight. To explain why this is fucking crazy Id like to start with the physical aspects of being overweight in the realm of attraction, it is common knowledge that people (men and women) are more attracted to skinner partners.
I believe the reason for such attraction to skinny people to exist is that we can naturally recognize that this person takes good care of themselves and will produce good fertile offspring or as Benjamin Radford puts it:
“At one point in our evolution, people who were heavier than average were prized as mates, clearly having access to food and resources. That is no longer true, and today obesity is instead a strong predictor of health problems; the person of normal weight is, on average, healthier than his or her overweight counterpart. All animals, including humans, choose partners partly (if subconsciously) on reproductive fitness: will this person be healthy enough to carry on my genes?”
Basically in a good majority of cases when your fat, you don’t look good, your not attractive because anyone can be lazy and get fat, but to hold a slim fit body takes commitment and effort.
Besides the unattractive exterior of an obese person, there is also the equally unattractive interior of them as well. Anyone obese who continues with their awful habits of overeating junk and not exercising is effectively killing themselves willingly.
The extreme buildup of fat puts extreme pressure on your organs most likely causing them to fail at some point, your blood pressure will most likely go up wich makes a heart attack a very probable reality, simple tasks like walking may become strenuous and leave you short of breath.
Your confidence in yourself may plummet possibly leading to clinical depression which could lead to you eating even more to soothe the sadness you now feel, you could feel more tired than an underweight person which is another factor that could slip you into depression.
There are many more health issues you can develop from being obese each more deadly/depleting than the last. Moral of the story if your fat don’t be proud, lose the weight, be healthy, and then be proud.
The takeaway and what we should do
The idea that it’s ok to be fat is absurd, it has MANY negative health effects associated with it and it’s unattractive, I don’t believe you can be your happiest you if you are obese but the FAM wants you to believe otherwise.
They don’t want to improve themselves by losing weight, they just want us as a society to accept them for “who they are” even though your size has nothing to do with who you are except for your lazy character.
As a society we cannot accept this behavior, it is simply not ok to be obese for any reason and this idea needs to be spread instead of fat acceptance. Eat your 2,000 calories a day of healthy food and work out regularly is all you have to do to stay healthy, but alas in our western society where gratification can be received easily I doubt obesity will be curbed any time soon.
Eat healthy, work out and condemn fat acceptance, that’s all we can do for now
